New Plant Varieties
A plant variety right (PVR) or plant breeders right (PBR) is a registered right which protects a novel plant variety. Examples of registered PVRs and PBRs include tomatoes, apples and roses.
As the owner of a registered PVR or PBR, you have the exclusive right to produce, sell or licence seed and reproductive material of that variety.
A PVR / PBR may be appropriate if you have developed any kind of plant (other than algae and bacteria). A PVR / PBR will be granted if the new variety (or cultivar/cultivated variety) is new, distinct, uniform and stable and an acceptable denomination (variety name) is proposed.
